An annual eclectic mix of fiction, essays, interviews, articles, poetry, and art. We seek exceptional written and visual creations from both established and emerging voices.

Payment: $25 upon publication. $100 for cover art. $100 Best of Kansas City Voices award to one unsolicited prose piece and to one unsolicited poem. By-lines given.

Deadline:  Submissions accepted August 31 to January 31. Response after March 31.

Submissions: Submit prose, poetry, and art in separate envelopes. No e-mail submissions. Manuscript submissions are blind. Do not put author’s name on manuscript. Include:

1. One cover sheet for each submission, with:

·        Author’s name

·        Address

·        Telephone number

·        E-mail address

·        Category (fiction, essays, interview, article, poetry, or art)

·        Title(s) of your submission(s)

2. The complete manuscript(s) with title and page number on each page, and the word count (required for prose) or line count (required for poetry) on the first page.

3. SASE for our reply. Manuscripts will not be returned.

PROSE: (fiction, essays, interviews with notable Kansas Citians, articles on regional places or history) Up to 2,500 words. May submit two. No reprints.

POETRY: Up to 35 lines. Single-spaced. May submit three. No haiku. No reprints.

ART:  Submit print, slide, transparency, or digital .tif file on IBM compatible CD. We recommend you include a color-balanced print. Send adequately sized SASE. Artist must have required model and/or property releases.

• Familiarize yourself with the magazine.
• No gratuitous sex or profanity.
• In fiction, we look for strong stories with active voices, well-defined characters.
